The Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department was created to promote and maintain the well-being and quality of life for military families. NASP has many opportunities available for active duty, retirees, DOD and their families. Please check and bookmark our Current Events page for the newest activities offered this month.

WATER SPORTS

The climate and location of NASP are especially suited to water sports. We have a strong aquatics program, Barrancas Beach and waterfront parks.

There are three marinas avalable for lessons, private wet or dry storage and boat, kayak and paddle board rentals. Bayou Grande Sailing Marina offers sailing rentals while Sherman Cove rents Cape Horns and pontoon boats. The Outpost Marina at the Blue Angel Naval Recreation Area also rents sail and pontoon boats. All rent kayaks.

 Barrancas Beach visitors

Paddle Boarding has become a popular pastime in the quieter waters of the Bayou and the perfect place to try them out is at the Bayou Grande Recreation Area (Ski Beach). The new Yak boards and the ocean kayaks are very stable and the water is shallow near the beach. Canoes can be rented also. Ski Beach is a perfect area for summer family and group fun with shady nature walks, picnic areas, a fishing pier, barbeque pits, pavilions, wading area, outdoor shower, restroom, volleyball and horseshoes as well as a playground for the younger children. The main pavilion has restrooms. Outpost Rentals is located on the premises and sells bagged ice.

10 am-6 pm / Sat

Laps: Tue & Thu / 4:30-6 pm
Scheduled Swim Lessons

The Beach is open daily from 10 am ~ 6 pm.

MWR offers camps to keep the kids busy throughout the summer. The Youth Center will hold a camp June 3 - Aug 16.  The Bowling Center will hold several 3-day bowling camps and the Aquatics Program has a wide variety of camps as well as swimming lessons. Camps include Water Safety, Jur. Lifeguard, Beach Volleyball, Sailing, Water Babies, Kayaking, Paddle Boarding, Puddle Jumpers and Marine Habitat. Contact the respective facilities for information.
